OUR STORY
A family run German Shepherd breeding program built on experience, care, and consistency
Focused on health, temperament, and dogs who thrive as lifelong companions

ABOUT PRAIRIE LAND BREEDERS
Prairieland Breeders is a family run German Shepherd breeding program built on hands on experience and intentional care. Our focus is raising long haired German Shepherds who thrive as family companions and integrate smoothly into everyday life. Every decision we make starts with the long term well being of our dogs and the families who welcome them home.
We are thoughtful about where our dogs live, how our puppies are raised, and who they are placed with. Puppies grow up in a busy family environment where they experience people, routine activity, and daily handling from an early age. This foundation supports steady temperaments, strong bonds, and confident transitions into new homes.
Finding the right match matters to us. We value long term relationships with our puppy families and provide support beyond pickup day. Our goal is simple. To raise healthy, stable German Shepherds and place them in homes where they are valued as true family members.

RAISING HEALTHY, LOYAL, AND INTELLIGENT SHEPHERDS
At Prairie Land Breeders, we adhere to a philosophy of allowing our german shepherds to do what they do best - be dogs! Our Shepherds are raised in a natural and nurturing environment, allowing them to develop into well-balanced and resilient companions. We believe in providing our dogs with the best possible start in life, and this includes a wholesome diet, regular exercise, and plenty of love and attention.
Why Did We Choose Long-haired German Shepherds?
Our journey began in 2017, when we were searching for a new puppy for our family. We wanted a dog that was intelligent, loyal, and affectionate—a true companion—and the fact that it was a long-haired German Shepherd was an added bonus. When we found Roxy, our first long-haired German Shepherd, we immediately fell in love.
We never planned to start a breeding program, but as Roxy grew, it became clear she was exceptional. Her intelligence, obedience, and loyalty stood out, far surpassing any previous dogs we had known. We were inspired to explore responsible, ethical breeding so more families could experience the joy of a dog with such a stable temperament and strong character.
A few years later, Dude joined our family as our sire. Together, Roxy and Dude captured our hearts and set the standard for our breeding program. Each litter has reflected the best qualities of both parents—health, temperament, and connection to family life. From Roxy’s first litter, we kept Bella, a female puppy who continues the legacy of intelligence, loyalty, and gentle nature that defines our program today.

More About the Breed
Long-haired German Shepherds are a unique and striking variation of the breed. Their luxurious coats provide added protection from the elements while giving them a distinctive, elegant appearance. Like their standard-coated counterparts, they are intelligent, loyal, and versatile, making them excellent companions for families and individuals alike.
Long-haired German Shepherds share the similar temperament and personality traits as standard German Shepherds. They are devoted, protective, and highly trainable. While every dog is an individual, long-haired German Shepherds are often perceived as calmer and slightly less driven by prey or work instincts than some short-coated lines, making them well-suited to family life.
Their long coat is caused by recessive genes and was historically uncommon because it did not conform to traditional breed standards. Today, long-haired German Shepherds are appreciated for both their striking appearance and friendly, even-tempered nature. Their coats are typically long, dense, and flowing, with feathering around the ears, neck, and tail, often creating a ruff or mane-like effect on the chest.
These dogs are highly engaged with their people and often display natural “herding” behaviors, staying aware of their family members and moving attentively alongside them. Their combination of beauty, loyalty, and intelligence makes them not only stunning to look at but also deeply connected companions. Families often remark on how unique and elegant these dogs are, and many are proud to show them off as part of their household.
